How to Use DraftLens

DraftLens helps you improve your writing through structured feedback. Here is how it works:

Getting Started

Paste your writing into the text area above. For best results, use 100-2000 words. Click Analyze Draft to receive feedback organized into three categories.

Understanding Your Feedback

Structure looks at how your writing is organized. It checks paragraph length, topic sentence clarity, and logical flow. Good structure helps readers follow your argument.

Tone analyzes the feeling and formality of your writing. It flags inconsistent tone and suggests adjustments for your audience.

Improvement suggestions highlight specific issues like wordy phrases, passive voice, and weak verbs. Each suggestion includes a brief explanation.

Common Writing Issues

Watch for these patterns in your writing:

• Starting paragraphs with vague words like "This" or "It"
• Overusing transition words like "however" and "therefore"
• Wordy phrases such as "due to the fact that" or "in order to"
• Passive voice constructions that weaken statements
• Inconsistent formality within the same piece

Tracking Progress

Use Save Analysis to store your feedback in your browser. Over time, you can compare reports to see which issues you have addressed. The Share Report button creates a link you can send to writing groups or mentors.

Example Workflow

First, analyze your draft to identify pattern issues. Next, make targeted revisions focusing on one category at a time. Then re-analyze to confirm improvements. Finally, save or share your final analysis for future reference.

Limitations to Keep in Mind

DraftLens analyzes text patterns, not meaning or context. It may flag intentional stylistic choices. For creative writing, consider the feedback as one perspective among many. Always trust your editorial judgment for genre-specific conventions.
